Company Overview:
“Game” as Art and Entertainment: A Vision for the Future of Art and Entertainment Culture Centered on “Play”
Japan takes pride in its rich game culture, and within this realm, a fascinating phenomenon of genre-crossing is unfolding. Visual artists, traditionally active in the fine arts, are using games as a platform for expression, while music artists are discovering new horizons through game soundtracks. This is because games embody both the entertainment of “play” and the sophistication of artistry.
A dynamic mix-culture is emerging, where games intersect with art, music, fashion, and other lifestyle elements, influencing and reshaping each other. From this fusion arise groundbreaking artists and their works, brimming with unconventional and unique charm.
Yet, the historical compartmentalization of genres has excluded cross-disciplinary expressions from mainstream recognition. Artists and works that transcend traditional categories often remain confined to niche spaces, limiting their reach and appreciation.
In today’s rapidly transforming era, the trend of cross-genre creative expression is expected to grow. Society must embrace diverse evaluation criteria, enabling artists who transcend genres to thrive. By doing so, Japan’s art and entertainment cultures can evolve into a more diverse, chaotic, and vibrant tapestry.
Our proposed project, tentatively titled ars●bit (Arsobit), draws inspiration from the Latin root of “art” (ars) and integrates it with “bit,” representing digital technology, bridged by a ● (perhaps an exclamation of awe). This fusion symbolizes the liberation of humanity’s playful nature, or Homo Ludens, leading to a reimagined future for art and entertainment culture.
Through this project, we aim to nurture “playful creators” who can innovate, propose, and carve out this new frontier. The primary hubs for our activities will be Kyoto (Hotel Anteroom Kyoto) and Shibuya (404 Not Found). These iconic cultural centers in Japan will serve as incubators for a new mix-culture, supporting genre-free creators and artists.
Let’s build a future where the boundaries of creativity dissolve, making room for boundless fun and inspiration!
